During Lent, the Church offers us a sustained focus and meditation on the divine person of Our Lord as He prepares for His Passion and Death. That’s why it’s good to come to Mass during the week in order to follow the Gospel passages and prepare for the great story and commemoration of Our Lord’s Passion. All the Gospels of each day tell of the repeated confrontation between Our Lord and the religious leaders of the people. Our Lord has upset their comfortable world of outward religious conformity, and He’s revealed that world for what it is: Emptiness and hypocrisy… A partial commitment to our Christian vocation is a flawed commitment, and it’s not one that will withstand temptation, and so there can only be a constant effort at one hundred percent commitment for God’ grace to work and for our souls to be filled with the grace and presence of the Holy Ghost. These are timely reminders, my dear brethren, for this Lenten season. (Fr. John Brucciani, Sunday 8th March 2026)
