Energy Transition from carbon-intensive sources to clean energy supply is imminent for limiting the global average rise in temperature to 1.5C to 2C. This transition is dependent on a lot of variables, one of them being technological advancements, deployments and adoptions. This episode presents the need for energy transition, basics and overview of energy transition along with some engineering behind energy transition.
This episode discusses current standing of Global Carbon Budget.
- Global Carbon Budget indicates the maximum amount of CO2 (cumulative) emissions that can be released in the atmosphere to limit the rise in global average temperature to 1.5 C and 2C by 2100.
- For 50-50 % chance of staying within 1.5C as per the sources mentioned in the episode, the budget is 380Gt which can be depleted in 9 years, with current levels of emissions.
