Publisher's Summary:
The mystique of the river life has often been romanticized but rarely scrutinized. The brotherhood of mariners who live and work the waterways of the heartland is made up of a rare breed that usually keeps to itself. Towboat Joe has broken the golden rule of "what happens on the boat stays on the boat" by inviting us to set sail on an unprecedented voyage. Captain Joe Kent shares his stories about hardened river men made of steel, with hearts of gold, who have too much time on their hands and not enough fear in their hearts. As each story unfolds, it proves they never know what might be waiting around the next bend to rock the boat. It's not always blue skies and fair tides, but "a calm sea never a skilled sailor made".
Some stories are exciting, some are hilarious, and all are entertaining. Grab a tall drink and a comfortable chair, and sail with Towboat Joe.

Tall Tales and the Truth: Towboat Joe Provides Laughs, Life-Lessons
Towboat Joe's title could have just as easily have been, "Towboat Joe: Tall Tales and the Truth" Captain Joe Kent is a living legend and if you don't believe me consult the book. In it you will find he is the only person to have christened a vessel that does not have a blood link to its namesake.
From his time as a deckhand until his promotion to Captain "Towboat Joe"has collected many life experiences along with many stories. I can't help but feel most are tongue-in-cheek, though guaranteed to leave you in stitches.
During the course of reading the book one is introduced to such characters as "Patch the Pirate" ( an unstable pilot who is pushed to the brink by a smart-mouthed bird) Captain Billy ( a rough tough towboat Captain who ultimately dies in the arms of a whore) , "Towboat Jesus" ( a captain who could do no wrong) , "Captain Dan" ( an over achieving thief), "Towboat Satan" ( a dark-soul deckhand who decides to tempt God) and numerous other characters and stories that leave one scratching their head and asking, "Is this guy for real?".
Yep, he's for real. Who else would admit (much less tell the world) that he once super glued his nuts to his hips by accident?
"Towboat Joe" is an entertaining read and if you can read between the lines, you might actually learn a few life-lessons.
we both absolutely LOVE the book
I bought Towboater Joe for my boyfriend's Valentines Day gift! Of course, I had to read a lil bit of it before I gave it to him lol Needless to say, we both absolutely LOVE the book! We are reading a couple pages a day to make it last longer and can hardly wait for the next book!!!
