TPP 031: September Reflection – Consistency is Key to What we Eat versus What We Avoid

Listen Later

Staying Consistent Amidst Changes
The month of September reminds us of transition.  As the seasons change and temperatures fluctuate, we try to stay mindful of daily practices that we wish to maintain.  If you are true to your core motivations and can keep consistent positive habits, then external changes can be exciting and stimulating.  On the contrary, straying too far from your routines when combined with changing external forces can quickly lead to feeling off kilter and ungrounded.  In the midst of surrounding transition, what routines would you like to keep steadfast?
What We Eat and What We Avoid
One of the prominent ways we maintain consistent positives habits is by being mindful to what we put into our bodies.  In this September reflection episode, we dive into what foods we eat and why we eat them, as well as what foods or “food-like substances” we avoid.  Isabelle enjoys all the benefits of a whole foods plant based diet, cooking her own food whenever possible.  Isabelle most certainly enjoys her carb-filled squash and potatoes!  Noah enjoys a similar approach, although tends to seeks more calorie dense foods with higher fat quantities.  He is in peak training weeks now, and needs to replenish those calories!  Despite our differences in what we enjoy eating the most, we certainly agree on what we should and try to avoid.
Finding your Balance to Propel Forward
One thing this exploration toward healthy living has taught us is that everyone is different, and has different needs at different times.  Wherever you are on your journey, consider what foods you enjoy for their nutritional value.  At the same time, compare those to the foods you enjoy for other reasons, such as their immediate gratification (i.e. fast-casual lunch spots).  Now think, which of those options make you feel better?  Consuming more of the former and less of the later automatically leads to personal gains, as those mindful moments have ripple effects into your whole life.  In short, approaching our diets with consistent purpose and intention unlocks the door to a healthy and balanced life.
