Watching Love Actually at least once in December is mandated by the UK government, so we thought we'd tip our hats to our friends across the pond and give this ol' soundtrack a go. To help us, we brought in actor, writer and all-around theater MVP, Andrew Clark, who was a real joy to have in the studio. This soundtrack has all the Christmas greats: Kelly Clarkson, the Beach Boys, Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding and many more! We had a lot to say about the disgusting love web that these British deviants weave in this movie, so strap in. Caleb was in a jolly mood and provided a Christmas edition of Super Group and we all add our (2nd) favorite Christmas song to the Track Listing Spotify Playlist. That's it for 2021 from us! See y'all in 2022!
We're back from the grave and seeking revenge on soundtracks. This episode is the Crow! Caleb picked this 1994 cult classic which is littered with epic grunge and goth hits. Bands like The Cure, Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, The Jesus and Mary Chain and more! The Crow holds up and we had a blast discussing it. It's still the only goth super hero movie to date! Chris brought back an edition of Vocal Fry that really squawked and we again recommend our favorite bird song. Fire it up T-Birds, this episode rules! CAW!
Shaquille O'Neal. Many of you know him from his Icy Hot and auto insurance commercials but did you know he can act and rap as well?? This needed to be fervently discussed so Chris picked Steel (Music From and Inspired by the Motion Picture) for this week's episode. For the game, Nick put together an edition of Super Group that was both challenging and really fun. There are some wild tracks on this album by some familiar artists (Ice Cube, Mobb Depp, Tevin Campbell and of course Shaquille himself). We get deep into this movie on this ep. Joking aside this movie is trash. It is a bad bad movie, and not even really the fun kind of bad. You can't even watch it in HD. But we still love Shaq! Consider this our love letter to the big guy. His rhymes hold up! Honestly, he can do no wrong. Enjoy!
We had to record 50 luxury podcast episodes in one night to save the life of our little brother who has fallen into a life podcasting crime. We botched it and only through one: the soundtrack to Gone in 60 Seconds! Nick picked this episode and we got really revved up in this one. We swerve all over the highway while talking about this Nic Cage masterpiece from 2000. 1st Cage movie on the pod! We couldn't believe it either! Caleb prepared an extra devious edition of Super Group that stumped us pretty good. This is our longest episode yet because we had a lot to talk about such as: Moby, DMX, Ice Cube, The Cult, Chemical Brothers and of course boosting cars. Strap in...LET'S GO!
The Track Listing guys entered a pact, that if we weren't all married by 28, we'd start a podcast. We eventually got around to it and reviewed the soundtrack for My Best Friend's Wedding. This was a pick by the very funny and talented NY based comedian, Arielle Dundas (@ArielleDundas on Twitter), who joined us in the studio! We get deep into the psychology of the main characters of this film and tear into the cover heavy soundtrack that scores their insane behavior. Chris prepared a round of Tinsel Town Tunes which goes over better than usual and we recommend our favorite karaoke song. It was great to have a guest on the pod after a long while and shoutout to Arielle for putting up with us. We may have a few more friends dropping by soon so stay tuned!
What's in the box this week? WHAT'S IN THE BOX?! It's the soundtrack to Se7en! Caleb picked this episode and if you've seen the movie, you'll know that this episode gets pretty, prettyyy dark. So warning to all of you squeamish Track Listers out there because even though we talk about the movie, we also talk about jazz (Thelonious Monk and Charlie Parker, specifically). Nick put together an edition of Super Group and Caleb and Chris actually do alright for a change. We add our favorite deadly sin song to the Official Track Listing Spotify Playlist but what's yours? Get at us on instagram or twitter!
"You're listening to the Track Listing Podcast? Nice. You have great taste in podcasts." And that's how you met the person that you would unfairly project all your flawed ideals of love onto for almost 2 years. This episode is 500 Days of Summer! Chris picked the soundtrack to this 2009 romantic comedy and we really get into the deeper meaning of the film. Was Joseph Gordon-Levitt a dick? Is Zooey Deschanel faking liking Ringo? Is this movie a huge eye-roll? Find out for yourself. Caleb put together a round of Super Group for us which totally stumped Nick and Chris. Can you do better? We also recommend our favorite "summer" song. Some great tracks on here from Hall and Oates, Feist, Regina Spektor, The Smiths and many more. Listen to this episode in a public place and try to find your soulmate/person who will destroy you for the next 500 days.
Time to gleam the cube and wax the record b-side cuz we're dropping into the hottest skateboarding video game soundtrack ever produced: Tony Hawk' Pro Skater! Nick picked this album and hot damn, is it still a jam. Nick and Chris played the Playstation game as kids but Caleb will never know what it was like to hit a Kickflip McTwist as Rune Glifberg at the last second to win the Trick Attack. Chris punished everyone's ears with an old game called "Vocal Fry" and we recommend our favorite bird song. Tony HAWK (get it?). This is the first video game soundtrack we've done but we want to do more! Hit us up with your favorite video game soundtrack and we'll review it!
We did it. We found our white whale, our holy grail...a copy of the Idle Hands soundtrack. Big thanks to Blake from the So Grosse | Much Pointe | Such Blank podcast for sending it to us. With tracks from Blink-182, Rob Zombie, Motley Crüe and the Offspring this punk rock and heavy metal soundtrack scored the horror comedy cult classic which got pulled from theaters and shelves shortly after its release. We think it was because of satan and murder stuff. Thanks Joe Lieberman! For the game, Nick prepared an edition of Covers Blown that almost cost Caleb and Chris their friendship. Should this movie have stayed buried? Or are we glad it rose from the grave just like Mick and Pnub?? One thing is for sure: Devon Sawa gives the best physical performance of any actor we've ever seen. End of discussion. Enjoy and stay busy because you know what they say...
We're taking on another classic here over at Track Listing. Beverly Hills Cop! The iconic Eddie Murphy movie has been on our short list for quite a while and Caleb finally picked it for this episode. Axel F by the legendary Harold Faltermeyer has got to be one of the best themes of all time but this soundtrack has so much more! Artists like: Patti LaBelle, Shalamar, The Pointer Sister, Glenn Frye (of Eagles. Yes, just Eagles. No "the". More on that later). Caleb also put together another edition of Spotify Feud which had us guessing top tracks from the mighty Spotify stats. We add our favorite song from an actor to the official Track Listing Playlist. We had a lot to say about this soundtrack so strap in. Perfect road trip podcast for that beautiful drive from Detroit to Beverly Hills!
