Trading is divided into active and passive trading. 

Active trading is where you make purchases or sales of securities depending on the short-term fluctuations in the market with the aim of gaining profits from the same fluctuations. 

Passive trading is mostly done by indexed investors who use the buy and hold strategy to trade their stocks and securities. They have a long-term strategy.
