Tragic Laboratory Failure.-by-Matthew F Blowers III

Listen Later

From the laboratory
into a sterile hypodermic
came my cure for aging
that was not scientifically perfect
which was hardly reaffirming
but my time of death was nearing
and I had no time for clearing
tests all interfering
with my bioengineering
Any permits were reneged
so I would be the Guinea Pig
for I was drawing close to ninety
with all my best years far behind me
and my lust for youth inclined me
to take daring risk that just might be
a whole new life granted to me.
My skin was parchment wrinkled
and arthritis left me crippled
and my eyes had lost that twinkle
That I knew as a young man
so I proceeded with my plan.....
With no one else I knew informed
all alone in my huge office
late at night and oh, so cautious
that my secret would remain
locked within my aging brain
folks would think me quite insane
and I wasn’t being vain
the act of dying is inane
........ filled with pain....
So quite slowly I injected
my magic potion undetected
away from all those who’d objected
and I got more than I expected.
Just one shot was all that it took
and suddenly my body shook
in cataclysmic ways.
And I noticed I was shrinking
“Oh, my God what was I thinking??",
all my clothing falling from me
as my years reversed, succumbing
to the serum I had taken
too rapidly I had become
just six years old
and still not done.
Until within ten minutes time
My tiny eyes looked down to find
that I’d become an infant
who could not yet crawl or climb
but I had retained all that I knew
as an old man in my mind.
And I knew that I was doomed
locked within that private room
where no cleaning crew
would come around
it would be months
untll I was found
and I would die
forever young.
Because the walls
were soundproof
No one would hear
My feeble cries and It was clear
that I would die from lack of food
but thirst of course would be the worst
my serum had become my curse.
And when someone finally found me
they would find it quite astounding
that a babies bones littered my floor
and I’d disappeared forevermore
I had got what I was hoping for.
And my name and all my fame
would be tainted by the claims
that I had used a tiny infant
in some quite, twisted experiment
and left its body when I vanished
till it died from being famished.
One must be careful what they wish for
Just take a peek inside that door
where I went from old to very young
and died regretting what I’d done
I died regretting what I'd Done
