As a first-generation Chinese-Cambodian immigrant living in Melbourne, Australia, I’ve faced my fair share of struggles—bullying, racism, identity crises, academic hurdles, and a delightful mix of physical and mental health challenges.Now, at 25 years old, I feel like I should have my life together. You know, ticking off the classic milestones: a car, a stable job, a house, marriage, and two kids (because apparently, that’s the magic number). But reality? It’s nothing like that. Instead, I’ve somehow landed back at university, now studying for my master’s in nursing practice after completing a double degree in biomedical and biotechnology science.Growing up as a 2000s kid—when life was radically different and constantly evolving at warp speed—I find it hard to keep up with the world around me. I actively avoid watching the news because, honestly, it just makes me feel miserable. But as an adult (or at least attempting to be one) and a future member of the healthcare workforce, I know I need to face the chaos head-on. Avoiding the issues won’t make them disappear, and if I want to be a better nurse, a better friend, and a more supportive person in society, I need to expose myself to the real-world problems that shape healthcare and humanity.So, come along with me as I throw myself into research and storytelling, tackling the many issues swirling around the minds of ADHD-riddled, science-loving, healthcare women who are simply trying to be...a girl
