Trans Americans' Voting Rights Amid COVID-19

Transgender and non-binary Americans have long been plagued by voter suppression, primarily due to voter ID laws that disenfranchise those who do not match the name and gender of their identification documents. These laws, which are present in 35 states, often require costly procedures in order to change a person’s driver’s license - with some states even requiring proof of surgery or amended birth certificates to do so. Paired with heightened rates of incarceration and homelessness among the transgender community, transgender voters will inevitably face new obstacles in this year’s election. Kate Sosin, an LGBTQ+ reporter with the 19th, joins KCSB News for an interview about transgender people’s voting rights amidst COVID-19.
