On the latest episode of The Advocates podcast, the show dedicated to LGBTQ issues across generations, transgender YouTube creator and LGBT activist Jackson Bird joins co-hosts Tracy E. Gilchrist and Jessie Earl. Bird was known for his past work with the Harry Potter Alliance, a nonprofit that uses fandoms to help create social change. He was awarded the Social Media Warrior Who Helped Restore Our Faith by MTV in 2016. He also recently won the Turner Visionary Grant from the GLADD Rising Stars Grant Program to help fund the second season of his transgender-focused series Transmission.
On The Advocates, Jackson talks about coming out as transgender after having gained a following on YouTube, how he hopes to share transgender stories with cisgender listeners, as well as what it was liking gaining male privilege as a trans man. For hot topics, Tracy and Jessie discuss self-care following the recent Brett Kavanaugh confirmation, Nicole Maines premiere as the first live-action transgender superhero on Supergirl, and Tracy's recent Q&A with Boy Erased author Garrard Conley.
