Message Notes:
Moving from Thinking to Action
1. Stop being a slave to money.
Rom 6:4-6,12-13 (NLT) We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin…Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires…Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life.
Prov 22:7 (NLT) Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.
2. Stop worrying about money.
Matt 6:25-34 (NLT) "That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life… Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today.
3. Start blessing God and others.
Acts 2:42-47 (NLT) All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer… And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need…And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
Response:
1. What change do I need to make to be free of the slavery of money?
2. Thinking of the top 5 things I spent money on last year, did God make the list?
3. In order to be more generous, what changes do I need to make in my current spending?
