Transformed from Above

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” - John 3:5.

Nicodemus was a respected man — religious, knowledgeable in Scripture, and devoted to spiritual matters. Yet, Jesus looked him in the eye and said: “You must be born again.” This reveals something powerful: no one enters God’s kingdom because of their background, status, or religious habits. What God is looking for is a complete transformation — a life made new from the inside out.

When Jesus mentioned being born of water, He was referring to baptism — a symbol of repentance and a public declaration of turning to God. But baptism alone isn’t enough. Jesus added that we must also be born of the Spirit. That means allowing the Holy Spirit to change our hearts, renew our minds, and reshape our desires and priorities.

So here’s the real question: have you been born from above? Does your life show evidence of that inner transformation? Many young people grow up in church, attend youth programs, and know all the right answers — but have never experienced this true spiritual rebirth. They follow rules but haven’t given God their hearts.

God isn’t just looking for good behavior. He’s looking for sons and daughters who reflect His character — not just on the outside, but deep within. To be born from above means receiving a new identity, a new heart, and a new purpose. It’s no longer about following God out of guilt or routine, but because you love Him and want to live for Him.

Take a moment today to pray:

“Lord, transform my heart. I don’t want to just look like a Christian — I want to truly be born from above. Fill me with Your Spirit, show me what needs to change, and help me surrender everything to You.”

Then, reflect on one area of your life that needs transformation — and place it in God’s hands.

Romans 6 reminds us that those who are baptized into Christ are buried with Him into death so that, just as Christ was raised, we too may walk in newness of life. Being born of the Spirit means turning from a life of sin and walking in a new direction — one that reflects God’s love, truth, and grace.

To be born of water and the Spirit is not just a symbolic act. It’s a divine invitation into a new life — a life where you are no longer the same, but made new in Christ. Make that your choice today: to be transformed from above and to live fully as a child of God.
