According to those who watch such trends, the concept of work has evolved over the last decades. It has turned from a necessity for income and sustenance to more of a life-fulfilling endeavor. Some say it has even become a source of identity for many. As cultural influences often do, we have taken something that God has intended for our good and for our blessing and transformed it into an idol to be put in the place of God.
