Transforming Complex Trauma: Reflections on Anti-Racist Psychotherapy with David Archer

Listen Later

David Archer, MSW, MFT, is an anti-racist
psychotherapist, the developer of the “Rhythm and
Processing” therapeutic framework, and a believer
in systemic change. Hailing from Montreal—which
was originally known as “Tio’tià:ke”—David
integrates the acknowledgment of Indigenous
histories and the complexities of colonization into
his therapeutic practice. This focus stems from his
expertise in intergenerational trauma, especially
within oppressed communities such as the African
Diaspora.
Before transitioning to psychotherapy, where he's
built over 14 years of expertise, David honed his
analytical skills in a decade-long software
engineering career. With advanced degrees from
McGill and Concordia, he uniquely blends
technological savvy, artistic creativity, and psychological acumen in his current full-time, global virtual
practice.
Trained as a clinical supervisor and EMDR consultant, David's influence spans a diverse range of
organizations worldwide, including non-profits, corporations, and educational institutions. He provides
tailored workshops grounded in therapeutic modalities like EMDR, Brainspotting, and other experiential
methods for transformative change. His practice is rooted in mindfulness, memory reconsolidation,

intersectional feminism, and critical race theory, focusing on complex PTSD, racial trauma, and identity-
based stresses.

Beyond the therapeutic space, David is a vocal advocate for marginalized voices, particularly within the
LGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, and global communities of color. His literary contributions, plenary
presentations, and media appearances bolster this advocacy, reinforcing his standing as a thought leader in
the realm of anti-racist psychotherapy.
David Archer’s career is a testament to his commitment to transformative change in mental health. Through
his upcoming presentations and book readings, he aims not merely to inform but to activate a deeper
understanding and commitment to anti-racist mental health practices.
