Mr. Sato opened the door.

ドア が あきました。

The door opened.

*あける(transitive)-あく(intransitive)


すずきさん が でんき を つけました。

Mr. Suzuki turned the light on.

でんき が つきました。

The light went on.

*つける(transitive)-つく(intransitive)
