In this episode of the Tranzcendent Outlook Podcast, I sit down with John Chamberlain, Director of Development at Sterling Community Center in Stratford, Connecticut, for a wide-ranging conversation about nonprofit leadership, community, family, and an overall meaningful life.

John takes us back to his childhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where some of his favorite memories involved piling into the family minivan and traveling with his family. He shares how his experiences at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in New York’s Finger Lakes region, followed by a year with AmeriCorps, helped shape the path that would eventually lead him into the nonprofit world.

After college, John spent time in Washington, D.C., where he got his first real taste of nonprofit work with KABOOM!, an organization that partners with communities to build kid-designed playspaces. Eventually, John made his way to Connecticut, where he found a career that brought together three things he knew he wanted to incorporate into his work: kids, education, and fundraising.

John discusses his experiences working for organizations including the Discovery Museum, where he spent more than five years, and Beardsley Zoo, where he worked for more than three years, before joining Sterling Community Center, where he currently serves as Director of Development.

We also talk about the tremendous impact that Leadership Greater Bridgeport, a leadership program facilitated by the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, has had on John’s career and his perspective on the Greater Bridgeport region. John shares how the people he met through the program helped expand his professional network, deepen his connection to the community, and influence the way he views the place he now calls home.

Finally, John opens up about one of the most important parts of his life: his family. He and his wife share the journey of raising two children while also becoming foster and adoptive parents. John talks about the joys and challenges of fostering and encourages anyone who has considered becoming a foster parent to explore the possibility. He is even willing to speak with people who are interested in learning more about the experience.

She also opens up about how participating in the Cultural Pageant and its practices helped her build confidence, step outside of her comfort zone, and form meaningful friendships. And, of course, we talk about her talent — playing the ukulele!

Taylor Gonzalez — Junior Miss Puerto Rico 2026

At just 13 years old, Taylor already has some big goals! She talks about starting high school at Bullard-Havens Technical High School, her love of sports, and her plans to one day join the U.S. Air Force and learn how to fly an airplane. We also talk about one of her favorite thing — Puerto Rican food — and her advice to other young women who may be thinking about participating in a pageant: go for it, take chances, and explore your passions!

Noelianyz Garcia — Little Miss Puerto Rico 2026

Eight-year-old Noelianyz shares the inspiring story of her journey to the crown. After competing two years ago and finishing as First Runner-Up, she came back, persevered, and earned the title of Little Miss Puerto Rico 2026! She talks about the importance of never giving up, the support of her family, and her passion for dance, including salsa and bachata. Noelianyz also shares how the pageant helped her come out of her shell and build confidence

.Camilia Seda-Lopez — Pageant Coordinator

Camilia brings a unique perspective to the conversation. Her connection to the Cultural Pageant has come full circle — from being a contestant herself as a child, to entering her son in the pageant, to now serving as the Pageant Coordinator. She shares her passion for mentorship, cultural traditions, youth empowerment, and community involvement, as well as her excitement for the upcoming 2027 Puerto Rican Parade of Fairfield County Cultural Pageant.

Together, these four conversations highlight what the Cultural Pageant is about: celebrating heritage, building confidence, creating lasting friendships, empowering young people, strengthening families, and bringing the community together.

On this episode of the Tranzcendent Outlook Podcast, I sit down with a truly special young guest — 8-year-old Noelianyz Garcia, the 2026 Little Miss Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rican Parade of Fairfield County!

Noelianyz is a vibrant, determined, and inspiring young girl who is already showing that persistence, confidence, and a strong support system can help you overcome any hurdle.

In this fun and uplifting conversation, Noelianyz opens up about her journey to becoming Little Miss Puerto Rico, including the fact that this was her second attempt at the title. Two years ago, she competed and finished as First Runner-Up. Rather than giving up, she kept going, returned to compete again, and this time captured the crown!

She shares some heartfelt advice for other young girls who may experience disappointment along the way — encouraging them not to give up, keep trying, and believe in themselves. Noelianyz also credits much of her success to the love, encouragement, and support of her family.

But there’s much more to Noelianyz than her crown!

Dance is one of her greatest passions. She talks about her love for salsa and bachata, calling dancing her favorite hobby, and shares how much she enjoys being part of Luti's Dance Company.

She also reflects on her experience participating in the Cultural Pageant and explains how the experience helped her come out of her shell, build confidence, and become more comfortable expressing herself. Now, she’s excited about the opportunity to help and encourage next year's contestants!

This conversation was an absolute joy. Noelianyz may only be 8 years old, but her determination, energy and confidence are already making a big impression. Her story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the biggest victories come after you've experienced disappointment — and that with persistence and the right people in your corner, the possibilities are endless.

Congratulations, Noelianyz, on becoming the 2026 Little Miss Puerto Rico! I can't wait to see where your journey takes you!

In this inspiring episode of the Tranzcendent Outlook Podcast, I sit down with 13-year-old Taylor Gonzalez, the 2026 Junior Miss Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rican Parade of Fairfield County!

Taylor is an incredible young woman with a bright future, and this conversation gives us a chance to learn more about her personality, passions, goals, and experiences.

Taylor shared her plans for starting high school next year at Bullard-Havens Technical High School, along with her excitement about staying active in sports. She revealed her top three favorite sports and talked about her plans to continue participating in athletics during high school.

Looking further ahead, Taylor has an exciting goal for life after high school: she wants to join the U.S. Air Force and learn how to fly an airplane! Her determination and adventurous spirit are truly inspiring.

Of course, we couldn't have a conversation with Taylor without talking about one of her favorite subjects — Puerto Rican food! Taylor says arroz y gandules is hands down the best dish, especially when it's made by her grandmother.

Taylor also reflected on her experience participating in the Cultural Pageant. She described it as a wonderful experience where she learned a lot and had the opportunity to meet many great people.

And her advice to other young ladies considering participating in a pageant? Go for it! Taylor encourages young women to try things they're interested in, take chances, and explore their passions.

This was such a fun and uplifting conversation with a young woman who has big dreams and the determination to pursue them. Taylor is definitely someone to watch — and we can't wait to see where her journey takes her!
