There are times when we all want to redesign our lives. But there’s value in doing so in a trauma-informed way – taking into consideration what we’ve been through, so we can move forward in the healthiest, happiest way.
Our guest this week is Courtney Lancaster, who is an expert in leading people on trauma-informed healing journeys. Courtney is a wife and mom, life coach, and singer/songwriter/worship leader. Since her journey of healing from a mental breakdown began in 2015, she has been passionate about understanding what keeps people from learning about and embodying emotional health and vibrancy.
Tune in to hear more about Courtney’s own personal story and healing journey, what being “trauma aware” means, and how you can apply trauma-informed approaches to designing and building the life you truly want.
What You Will Learn:
3:23: Courtney describes her own hero’s journey, which began with a hospital stay for panic attacks, and has continued on her journey of healing
5:04: Courtney talks about her religious background, as well as the messages she received telling her she “should be” okay, even if she wasn’t
11:34: What being “trauma aware” means, and how the question “what happened to you?” can be the start
14:50: How Courtney uses a trauma-informed approach to actually be kinder to herself
19:00: More information about the “threat detector” in our brains that’s constantly scanning our environments, the effect it can have on your body when you’re not in tune with yourself, and tools you can use when you’re having “dark days”
26:15: What it means for Courtney to design a life that’s in alignment with her soul (and how she helps others do the same), plus what “perspective foresight is”
32:21: The role that creativity plays in Courtney’s ideal daily life, plus other ways in which she integrates what makes her happy into her day-to-day
34:36: The part of Courtney that she suppressed before her healing journey, and how tuning back into that is a “language” she’s still learning
36:09: When and how to “burn your life down” and why it’s a trauma response to always gravitate towards pushing things away, rather than simply shifting them
39:36: What’s been bringing pleasure to Courtney’s soul recently
41:32: What a somatic practitioner is, and how working with one can be helpful in a healing journey
