Trauma to transcendence; a path to peace with Sarah McLean

Listen Later

Sarah is a lifelong seeker driven by a deep curiosity about the subtle forces that shape our lives.

Her journey into contemplative practices began over 30 years ago when, after a stint in the Army working with soldiers with post-traumatic stress, she embarked on a nine-month bicycle trip.

Her insatiable curiosity led her to trace the footsteps of mystics, sages, and seekers who shaped the world's spiritual and philosophical traditions. From the ancient oracles of Delphi to the whirling dervishes of Konya, from the wisdom keepers that whispered Vedic knowledge along the Silk Route, her quest for the hidden truths and timeless teachings.

When she returned, she began to realize that the greatest adventure wasn’t across distant lands—but within. That’s when she adopted a daily practice of meditation.

Since, Sarah immersed herself in the world’s wisdom traditions, living as a Zen Buddhist in a monastic training center, and as a resident in an Ayurvedic Mind/Body Health center, and living in a traditional ashram in India. She was mentored by Deepak Chopra for nearly a decade, serving as the program director for his mind/body health center, and later went on to serve as the director for Byron Katie’s School for The Work.

Now based in Santa Barbara, Sarah is the founder of the McLean Meditation Institute and the Meditation Teacher Academy, and has trained hundreds of meditation and mindfulness teachers worldwide. As a sought-after speaker and teacher, the best-selling Hay House author of Soul-Centered: Transform Your Life in 8 Weeks with Meditation and The Power of Attention: Awaken to Love and its Unlimited Potential with Meditation, has been featured in many films and media outlets including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, and Fox Health News.

Sarah is dedicated to helping people wake up to the beauty and wonder of their lives through the power of meditation and mindfulness. Whether she’s leading a leadership retreat, training new teachers, or inspiring audiences all over the world, her mission remains the same: to inspire more peace on the planet, one person at a time.
