“Sometimes I actually have to hold on to both sides of the tension between seemingly contradictory realities if I am going to follow Jesus the way he intends. In this case, if we only hold on to the delight side of this tension, we risk losing a fundamental truth of our faith: salvation is by grace alone, for Christ’s sake alone, without any contribution or worthiness in me. That is a truth we cannot let go.

But the danger on the other side is just as great. If we only hold on to the stinking sinner side of this tension, we can get forgiveness right at the expense of delight. We can affirm our sinfulness and miss our value. We can learn to accept God’s grace and never experience God’s love.” (Delight!, pg 61).
