So after last week's episode defending Keiko O'Brien it's time for the truth™ to come out. We here at Trekkin Up North have known it for a long time and it's finally the right moment to share it with the rest of you all once again.

Everything you think about Star Trek and the timeline is wrong. Almost every major event has been guided by one person, one sinister hand (or maybe two if it was slightly heavy). It's all been manipulated from behind the scenes by one shadowy individual: Keiko O'Brien.

Where was she during Wolf 359?

Why did she send Molly back in time?

Why turn Picard into a child?

Was she really possessed by a pah-wraith or just faking it?

There are a lot of contentious characters across Star Trek, our opinions of them shaped by who we were or how we felt when we first saw the show. Keiko O'Brien is definitely among them despite being played so brilliantly by actress Rosalind Chao, with some fans having a negative opinion of the character throughout her appearances in The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Well here it is, for our sins against Keiko the Dabo Wheel of Shame has served us up the worst rated episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation (3.3/10 on IMDb) to review. "Shades of Gray" is infamous for being a glorified clip show done because the production had run out of budget toward the end of the season. It's also our final episode with Dr Pulaski who Science Officer Synoiz actually prefers to Dr Crusher. But is this truly one of the worst episodes of Star Trek or is it just misunderstood? It's another fantastic episode from our Dabo Wheel of Honour. This week we're reviewing the season 3 Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Similitude" with special guest and Enterprise's Ensign Walsh, Duncan K Fraser! Similitude is an episode that delves into the ethics and morality of medicine in desperate situations as Captain Archer gives permission to create a clone of the critically injured Chief Engineer Tucker in order to harvest what is needed to save his life. In our review Captain Goodwill can't believe how emotional this episode makes him, Science Officer Synoiz can't understand how an episode with double the amount of Trip Tuckers isn't sexier, and poor Duncan has to make sense of everything else. Science Officer Synoiz and Captain Goodwill are back with another episode from the Dabo Wheel of Honour! "Yesterday's Enterprise" from Star Trek The Next Generation is the episode that sees the return of fan favourite Natasha Yar, leads to the birth of the villainous Sela, and gives us the amazing Captain Rachel Garrett (let's hope she doesn't get ruined as a character in future media eh?). It's an awesome story of time travel, consequences, responsibility, and knowing where you need to be in your life.

The Prophets of Bajor have smiled upon us with this choice from the Dabo Wheel of Honour. This episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine has everything, espionage, space battles, murder, dastardly villains, divine intervention, and of course: hasperat soufflé. 

Telling the season 6 story of Captain Benjamin Sisko's retaking of DS9 from the Dominion, "Sacrifice of Angels" is one of the pivotal moments of not only the entire show but the Dominion War as a whole. A controversial one here from our Dabo Wheel of Shame. Will "Profit and Lace" from Deep Space Nine be seen as a progressive episode today or has it aged terribly? In this we see Quark's misogyny turned on its head when he's forced to become a she and fight for the rights of all Ferengi women. We get a lot of great performances in this, a threat against both women and the Ferengi alliance, and the introduction of the now iconic Sluggo Cola.

Well thanks to Science Officer Synoiz failing last week's challenge we're reviewing one of our worst episodes of Star Trek from the Dabo Wheel of Shame™ this week. "The Fight" is from season 5 of Voyager and is one of the most confusingly structured episodes of the entire show. We've got all the usual tropes: Chakotay's awkwardly written Native American catchphrases, plot device aliens that are never explained, Borg "oh yeah about that-" known phenomena, and Neelix once again having no reason to be there.

So join Captain Goodwill and Science Officer Synoiz as we review Star Trek Voyager "The Fight".

Another episode from our Dabo Wheel of Honour, this time picked by Science Officer Synoiz. This is one of the finest episodes of Enterprise where we get to see Trek at its finest. Season 2 episode 14: "Stigma" where vulcan first officer T'Pol has to deal with her ongoing medical condition and the stigma associated with it from wider vulcan society. This episode is a very poignant way for Trek to address the AIDS crisis of the 1980s and 1990s and we go into it in depth along with the cultural differences we recognise among the various characters. We talk a lot about the reality of the HIV and AIDS crisis and how the stigma attached to it affected LGBT+ rights and how well Enterprise manages to tackle the subject. It's also a great Dr Phlox and Trip episode as we get to meet one of Phlox's many wives and he has to deal with her unwanted advances.

We're gonna be honest, this attempt at an "epic conclusion" to season 3 just doesn't really land and we struggled with it. A lot happens, there's a lot of flashy special effects, and the return of the evil "not a pah-wraith but probably should have been" from earlier in the season that I don't think we really cared about. The most important part of the episode is the loss of Captain Batel and an incredible imagined future together between her and Pike which feels like a perfect ending for the relationship and foreshadowing of Pike's inescapable fate.
