Trekking the Industry Transformation Map

Listen Later

On this episode of START, we sit down with the architects behind 3 different projects that all utilised Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) practices in their creation, relating them to BCA’s refreshed BE Industry Transformation Map (ITM) pillars of:

1.       Integrated Planning and

2.       Advanced Manufacturing and Assembly (AMA) methodology.

We delve into how DPA implemented such novel processes, the resultant benefits and challenges, and what this shift means for the larger Built Environment sector.

Offering us their insights into how BIM and DfMA methodologies were incorporated into their respective projects are:

  • DPA senior associate director Seetoh Khan Pang, key design team member of the The Woodleigh Residences and The Woodleigh Mall;
  • Associate director Ng Ching Hsiung, design team member for the award-winning HomeTeamNS Khatib Clubhouse;
  • senior associate director Chin Li Nah and
  • associate Frederick Low, both design team members for Bukit Canberra.

The quartet enlightens us on:

  • the possibilities that BIM and DfMA are able to provide to the Built Environment, such as acting as a bulwark against exigent uncertainties and manpower issues that were highlighted during the COVID crisis,
  • how the ITM will help improve sustainable developments in the industry, and
  • the greater significance of DPA’s recent attainment of ISO 19650 certification to both clients and the wider industry.

This podcast promises to provide an accessible conversation to listeners curious about how technology is being deftly utilised by architects to improve the Built Environment industry’s workflow and how it helps to address the matter of sustainability.
