Finally, we made the trip back to Fred’s NFL home!! Duuval!! And Not only did we make it to Jacksonville and get an inside look to the Jaguars organization, but we sat down with the man himself, Trevor Lawrence! 

Coming off a wild run to the playoffs last season, Trevor Lawrence is confident Jacksonville is ready to compete with the best of the best in the AFC and have the talent and discipline to carry the team deep into the post season. Being named one of the top 10 NFL QBs heading into 2023, Trevor doesn’t feel pressure to win but welcomes the challenge of being better each time he steps on the field, capitalizing on the chemistry he’s building on offense and the team’s tough defense. Excited about the addition of Calvin Ridley, Trevor talks about his energy incredible talent & versatility he brings to the offense and just one more reason Jacksonville could be considered a Super Bowl contender. 

From 5 star high school recruit to National Championship QB at Clemson and being apart of one of college football’s most talented teams, Trevor Lawrence is used to the football spotlight but opens up on how hard it was his first couple seasons in Jacksonville adjusting and helping to establish a winning culture. Sharing what kept him grounded during the roller coaster times, Trevor says how Coach Doug Pederson was the unwavering voice for him, never losing focus and approaching everyday with consistency and the same energy no matter if it was a 5 game losing streak or 5 game win streak. 

Although football is his passion and fuels him everyday, Trevor fully understands it’s just a game and that there is more to life in which he finds his balance through his family and faith. His brother who’s his best friend is an artist and barely watches football which Trevor finds peace in that bond as well as with his wife Marissa, who has been on this journey with him since high school.

It's Friday and the guys are back as we Pivot our way through all the hot topics of sports and entertainment starting with our own storylines straight through the top headlines of recent. But as usual, you can expect honest, authentic conversation and that locker room type of talk as Ryan, Channing and Fred will always keep it 100 even on the tough topics and being on opposite sides of issues. The guys may not agree with Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s recent comments during a graduation speech, but they discuss the football world’s responses to a fellow NFL player speaking their mind. Ryan talks about why he disagrees with the speech itself and they each give thier takes on what it is like being a teammate to players whose beliefs don’t align with their own, as Ryan talks specifically to Jason Kelce being a good teammate, fresh out of the locker room, trying to make light of the situation and the media world reacting to it in an unnecessary way.
With all of the talk surrounding Bronny James as a prospect in the NBA Draft, Channing defends the use of nepotism for Bronny to get opportunities, but he and Ryan both touch on how he has to earn his spot in the league. This is similar to Caitlin Clark and the WNBA rookies proving their stardom, and the guys discuss the WNBA’s spotlight with the league’s heated competition so far this season.
The NCAA’s new regulations allowing schools to put money directly into NIL for their athletes is a boost for Power-5 student athletes, but Ryan talks about why he thinks this should have already happened. Channing and Fred also touch on the importance of financial literacy for these athletes to succeed in the long run.
Just like in the NFL, NBA or any professional league, The Pivot and their team is a family, and the guys finish the show talking about the importance of checking in on one another given the recent news about PGA golfer Grayson Murray’s death.

With May being Mental Health Awareness month, The Pivot has had several guests focus on emotional wellbeing from Michael Beasley to Ryan Mundy to Solomon Thomas and more as Mental health remains stigmatized in sports today, but more and more athletes are beginning to break the silence surrounding it and change cultural perception.
In 2018, one NBA star released an emotion-filled tweet that created waves throughout the league, generating awareness of vulnerability while garnering support as the message and impact was felt far beyond the game. Ryan, Channing and Fred sit down with six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan to talk about his mental health advocacy as well as his journey to the league. The 15-year veteran shares stories from his upbringing in Compton, California and reflects on defining moments from his career.
DeMar mentions the influence of figures like Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle in his life and talks about how he is driven to inspire the next generation as well and what kept him from giving up during the darkest times. The guys ask about his trade from the Raptors to the Spurs and he reflects on the difficulty of the move, his legacy after spending 9 years in Toronto and how he handled his father's passing while the NBA pressures continued to build. Many people consider him an NBA star and an all-time clutch player, but DeMar talks about the importance of sharing real stories and being seen as a human being, which he hopes to spotlight in his upcoming book Above the Noise.
