Last week, Tribune Publishing announced a new discretionary time off policy – meaning that employees at the LA Times and other newspapers would no longer earn and accrue vacation days or sick days. Instead, they’d have to go to a supervisor and make the case for paid time off. Needless to say, LA Times staffers were very upset.
