I call it your “Secret Horror,” because I love to wax melodramatic, but in the literature it goes by many names: “Cracked Identity,” “Schema,” “Raw Spot,” “Self-Defeating Belief,” etc. What you really need to know about it, is that it’s a thought or a story you’re carrying around with you because some buried part of you has learned to believe it, but it really only sticks around because you're too scared to deal with it. And because you’re too scared to deal with it, anytime someone or something brings it up, you get… triggered.
