Shortly after the Rape that was committed on July 5th, 1979, the East Area Rapist moved to southern California and started attacking Santa Barbara County in October of 1979. These attacks lasted until 1981 with a single attack happening in 1986. It was during this period that Joseph James DeAngelo then began killing his victims. However, The East Area Rapist wasn’t linked to these crimes so at the time, the killer was called the Night Stalker. He was then renamed the Original Night Stalker after a serial killer called Richard Ramierez was called the Night Stalker.
