I think one of the most well known museums in Boston is the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The museum itself was built with the guidance of Isabella Stewart Gardner, the art collector, because she wanted a place for her personal art collection. The museum opened to the public in 1903, and Gardner continued to expand the collection and arrange it until she died in 1924. She left the museum with a $3.6 million endowment when she passed away and her will basically said that the arrangement of the artwork should not be altered and no items were to be sold or bought into the collection. If you go to the museum today, you’ll see the empty frames of where the stolen paintings used to hang. Join us today for the story behind one of the most notorious heists in Boston history…
Stay safe out there.
