Often people quote Bible verses out of context to promote an idea. One such verse is John 8:32 where Jesus says, "you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Let's consider the verse in its context of John 8:2-30
After these opening startling claims about himself Jesus makes the statement." So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
