Just what is the true spirit of Christmas about- As we examine this question I would like to bring your attention to the fact that some of our Christmas traditions do ring true of a Pagan past. As I point these out however I ask that you not be so quick to begin to jump to conclusions but rather with a very open mind set allow the Spirit of God guide and direct your thoughts toward the true revelation of Him what Christmas should represent in the lives of Christians. So what about Bells and the ringing of bells at Christmas certainly they are seen everywhere at Christmas. Or maybe Candles ever light a candle at Christmas or any other time of the year that matter- Let's certainly not forget the giving of gifts- Oh sure it is said that some pagan gave a gift to his goat as part of a pagan spiritual ritual. It also is said that pagans rang bells to drive away evil spirits well I guess if you did not know Jesus Christ as your savior you too might be easily lead to believe that loud noises might drive away evil spirits. As some loud noise has likely scared you a time or two. Raise your hand how many of you here have ever light a candle in the middle of winter on the coldest night of the year and suddenly you were warmed and cozy all over- Sure a fire can provide warmth but it will take more than a candle. Pagan ritual has it that lighting a candle would drive away the forces of cold and darkness. Even though when one candle burns in a dark room it is no longer truly total darkness it is not warmed by that single candle, nor is the darkness of evil dispersed.
