Ruth 1:16-17 But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”
Being loyal involves many qualities. This means being faithful and keeping promises. Being dependable through all situations. Putting aside selfish interest and valuing personal commitments.
The Bible makes clear that God looks for people who are loyal, who seek first His kingdom, willing to die to self, take up their cross daily, and follow Jesus, committed to serve Him. This account in Ruth was a noble - even outstanding - friend-to-friend commitment. But Ruth's commitment to Naomi went even further: And your God, [will be] my God!
