Interesting peek into an exclusive world
It is a shame that this book needs a good editing; there are funny stories, great recipes written in charming style but it can get a bit lost in sentence structure, grammar and typos. That said, Dame DJ is a charming writer with access to people and places that many of us can only dream of. This book deals with the one of the exotic food stuffs on the planet and she takes us to through a history of the truffle, modern trade and we meet some of the talents who get to use this wonderful fungus on a daily basis.
The recipes had my mouth watering and I'm going to start saving my pennies to at least get some truffle oil!
Equal Parts Yearning and Laughing
This book both made my mouth water and made me laugh out loud. It is filled with delicious-sounding truffle recipes well beyond my budget and informative/hilarious descriptions of posh London eateries that make me yearn and laugh in equal measure. I hugely enjoyed the many tidbits like this quirky positive reaction to a renovated high-end restaurant: "It had none of those modern minimal grey hard lines of industrial chic that we have had thrust upon us, which essentially make people look ugly, badly dressed, jaundiced, greasy and unwanted."
