In this episode, I look at what has driven allegiance to Donald Trump among rural, white voters. A conflation of economic disparities and threatened cultural identity, has led to democratic apathy and the feeling that politics wasn’t listening to them. Although it is important not to generalise, this pattern emerges as increasingly important as far-right populist authoritarianism blooms globally, particularly in the US and UK.
