A true leader understands that they are first and foremost servants of the people and it is the responsibility of the people to hold their leaders accountable to being an unwavering representative of the people. As “the people” we must suffer no idols and instead acknowledge that we are men and women not perfect beings. So too are our leaders fallible which is why we must be diligent in our appraisal of the work being done in our name. That is not to say that our chosen leaders are to be torn down at the first opportunity, no, that would only serve to impede the contributions of leadership as a whole. What must never be sacrificed is accountability and this goes for the populace but is especially crucial for those who choose to lead.
