President Trump has deployed hundreds of ICE agents to major U.S. airports to help overwhelmed TSA officers amid long security lines caused by the partial government shutdown. When asked whose idea it was, Trump proudly declared: “Mine." Democrats quickly fired back. Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) held a press conference at Newark Liberty International Airport and said: “The message today is: Fund the TSA and get ICE out." Other Democrats echoed the criticism, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) warning that “untrained ICE agents” at checkpoints put travelers at risk and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) saying that “masked, armed police at travel checkpoints is a hallmark of dystopian movies" that creates chaos for political leverage.
