Donald Trump has threatened to strip Harvard University of $US3 billion in grant money, accusing the school of antisemitism and liberal bias.

He also called for a list of foreign students to assess potential security concerns and warned more funding could be reviewed.

The move is part of his broader campaign against elite institutions in the country as he goes after what he sees as left-leaning power.
