Luke 1:67-79 and Malachi 3:1-4
Zechariah, a priest and the father of John the Baptizer, was told by the angel Gabriel that he and his wife Elizabeth would become the parents of a son. Because of his doubt of God's promise, Zechariah was unable to speak until his son was circumcised. Then he proclaimed a prophetic message praising God for the salvation that was about to come and a prophecy about the part his son would play in God's salvation plan. We are able to learn two lessons from Zechariah: (1) the great depth of God's plan of salvation for mankind and (2) our need to trust God's promises in our lives.
