Todays Anchor Point is based around Isaiah 40:12-14 which reminds us that the God who holds creation needs no advice—His wisdom, justice, and goodness are beyond our own. When we question His forgiveness, morality, or purpose in our struggles, we can trust the Creator who turns evil toward good and whose plans will stand. His throne is founded on righteousness and justice, anchored in unfailing love and truth. God is in control, and His way is best for our good and His glory.

In this episode we sit down with Dr. Herb Samworth (former dean of Crown Seminary and graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary and an expert in theology and ecclesiastical history) and take a trip back through history to learn about the origins of scripture and how the translation process has progressed to today where we can freely possess a copy of God's word in the English language. We learn about prominent figures such as William Tyndale and John Wycliff and the impact they had on the English bible in history.

In this episode we examine the Jehovah’s Witness teaching of “soul sleep” and compare it with the broader biblical case for conscious existence after death. The Watchtower teaches that humans do not have an immaterial soul, but rather are souls, and that death is a state of unconscious nonexistence until a future resurrection. We look at why the biblical language of “sleep” refers to the body in death—not the soul—and why Scripture points to life with Christ beyond the grave.

In this episode, I attended the Jehovah’s Witness Memorial Supper and spoke with someone who said she is part of the “anointed class” (the 144,000). We explore what led her to that belief and how she thinks about Jehovah’s Witness teaching on the anointed over time. Along the way, we discuss key passages and themes including Revelation 14, the purpose of Christ’s death, and Jehovah’s Witness beliefs about Jesus as God’s “only-begotten Son,” his role in creation, and Isaiah 9:6 (“Mighty God”). We went to the Jehovah’s Witness Memorial Supper expecting a quiet, symbolic service—then we witnessed something we truly didn’t think we’d see: someone from the anointed class actually partook of the emblems. From the packed hotel conference room and worship songs to the message and the passing of the bread and wine, we share what it was like as total newcomers, what stood out, and the questions we left with.

We talk about David's experience as a child in the organization, his families current involvement, how he began to dismantle falsehoods and see holes in the organization which eventually lead him out and consequently to the real Jesus. Week 6 of our Jehovah’s Witness study walks through Reasoning from the Scriptures Chapters 10–11, focusing on the Watchtower teachings about the 144,000 “anointed class” versus the “other sheep/great crowd,” and how those categories affect a person’s hope (heaven vs. paradise earth) and even who the New Testament promises apply to. We examine key texts often used to support these doctrines (Luke 12:32; Revelation 7 & 14; John 10:16; Revelation 7:9, 15; Romans 10:13; John 3:5; Acts 16:30–32), compare them to their broader context, and highlight several internal tensions—especially the claim of a 1935 cutoff, the placement of the “great multitude” before God’s throne, and the idea of a works-based path to salvation. The lesson concludes by contrasting this framework with the biblical presentation of salvation and eternal blessings received by all who believe in Christ (e.g., Ephesians 1:4–14; John 5:24).
