What does it mean for the architect to fall?
Richard Francis-Jones explores the irrational impulse to stand at the edge of a great height and feel compelled to step off, to fall. The strange phenomenon known as the "call of the void."
But could this impulse also be a metaphor for the architect's condition? We are compelled to reach upwards, to rise above the ground and, in some sense, defy gravity itself.
In this episode, I ask whether the survival of architecture might depend on our willingness to take that step: to fall, to return to the ground, to reconnect with the earth from which we come.
