Featured in WYGYFF Episode 4: The son of soul singer Curtis Womack and nephew of the legendary Bobby Womack. Binky Womack is a soul and funk music producer, guitarist and vocalist who transitioned from backing his famous father and uncle to working with stars like Usher and Snoop Dogg. His fifth solo album since 2018, called Womack 100%, was released earlier this year.
Womack is also a member of hardcore funk group Tha P-Union, which released a pair of albums earlier this decade and two more under the new name, Tha Skunk Mob – including this year’s great one called Tha Firmament. Halfway through, Womack is joined by seveal other band members and collaborators, including Lisa Love, Jay Bass, Old Man Loc and Roc B.

Featured in TRUTH IN RHYTHM Episode 343: Iconic jazz and R&B drummer, composer, arranger, producer and bandleader Norman Connors. Best known for a string of 1970s hit collaborations with Michael Henderson, Jean Carne and Phyllis Hyman, like “You Are My Starship,” “Valentine Love” and “We Both Need Each Other,” he charted six consecutive Top 40 R&B albums between 1975 and 1980.
Through 1988, he notched nine Top 30 R&B hits, and remains active recording and performing. He has been working on a new album called Royalty, and is doing shows with folks like Marva King and Bobby Lyle.

The Detroit-based quintet had one of the biggest worldwide hits of the late 1970s with the dreamy, seductive and super fun “Float On” – all nearly 12 minutes of it! Featured in TIR Episode 341 (Part 2 of 2): Singer-composer Brenda Bennett, best known for her work with Prince protege groups Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6. Their hits included “Nasty Girl” and “Sex Shooter,” and she also can be heard on Prince’s “17 Days.” Having sung lead on songs like “Blue Limousine,” “Bite the Beat,” “Some Kind of Lover” and “A Million Miles,” as a member of those groups she also toured with Prince and appeared in the movie “Purple Rain.”
Prior to Prince, she was a member of the band Ken Lyon and Tombstone and performed on concert bills with Mott the Hoople and Queen. She is a two-time inductee of the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, and continues to release her own music.
