A show that's a little longer, but we're live as we record the podcast. We try out a couple new segments, and one that probably won't make any comebacks.
For some fun, we take a look at a few headlines to turn tragedy into comedy. Find out what we mean when we wonder about...
* Do monsters or men's suits mind being emotionalally abused by sports teams?
* Why are babies hanging out at gas stations?
* Which is brighter? The headlight, or the driver?
* Are people really excitedly flocking to church on Suncays?
The creepiest of all the unusual news had to do with:
* Investigation when vegetative woman becomes pregnant, and gives birth in her nursing home.
Some words have definitions that are strangly similar, but carry social baggage that makes them opposites. For example...
activism
a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue
a person who uses or supports strong actions (such as public protests) to help make changes in politics or society
* advocate, apostle, backer,
* champion, evangelist, patron,
* promoter, stalwart, supporter
* crusader, fanatic, ideologue
* militant, partisan, red hot,
* true believer, zealot
* demonstrator, marcher, objector,
* picketer, protester
* dreamer, idealist, visionary
evangelism
* the winning or revival of personal commitments to Christ
militant or crusading zeal
to try to convert (a group or area) to a different religion (especially Christianity)
* lecture,
* platitudinize, preach,
* sermonize
Our final fun segment is defining a word of the week. I'm not sure we do so well, but stay tuned to the end of the show.
We'll share the real definition with you.
Main Topic
We're on a roll with a theme of Relativism, so we take time to discuss a few bullet points common to the claim that morality is relative.
* ”Christianity’s true for you, but not for me.”
* ”That’s just your perspective.”
* ”Who are you to judge that person?”
* You can’t legislate morality.”
* ”You can do whatever you want just as long as it doesn’t hurt anybody.”
* ”Christianity is just one path among many to God.”
Holding to a relative vieewpoint of truth is no truth at all. The best you can say is that opinions, perspectives, or experiences are valid and real. But when those ideas oppose one another, either one person is true, and the other false, or they both are wrong. An outside, objective truth is out there that will make sense of the conflict of personal opinions. Even in a relative world, consistency in morality, orr social judgments require some sort of higher authority.
What about tolerance? By definition, tolerance means truth is involved. Certain measurements are in demand. if you have a bolt with a 3/8 inch diameter, only a nut with a 3/8 inch opening will do. all other sizes are intolerant. They may be a perfect fit in their own uses, but for the matter at hand there is a tolerance to meet, and only one truth will work.
Often the claim is that all views are true, and we need to accept them all. But if I have my vieews, which I hold as true, and you bring your Christian views into the mix, you're wrong, intolerant, bigotted, narrowminded, etc. OK, now who is being judgemental, disrespectful, intolerant , and all the rest? What happened to the idea of all views being true? The idea being communicated is that all other views are to be tolerated, just as long as the view is mine. That isn't rrelative. It isn't tolerant.
