Eric Ryle of The Sub Vet.com and Dave Bowman get together to talk submarine and just some the numerous dangers faced by the men and women who man the boats.
It was in 2005 that USS San Francisco ran into an underwater seamount, causing massive damage and a great deal of heroic work to save the ship (you can read one of the best descriptions HERE). One crew member, MMS(SS) J Ashley perished in the accident, and at least 80% of the crew was injured to some degree.
The post accident discussions took place at a time when the internet was still relatively new and free. One of the lead Submarine Blogs of the day, The Stupid Shall Be Punished, more or less led the way with what information was available and much commentary. Most submariners were shaken by the incident, and the blog and discussions gave us all a place to vent.
The post Cold War world is heating up again. There are so many danger spots rights now that it's important to understand that very soon, the sailors of the US Submarine service could be once again sailing into danger.
