What you can expect out of both Airial and Scott is brutal honesty and a hand extended to help. TrepTECH is all about making business fun and successful no matter what that means or what it takes.

In this episode, Airial and Scott get started talking about e-mail headlines as they begin the process of e-mail automation and what piques people’s interest to open your email. Scott discusses he likes short, snappy headlines followed by humor, lists, and pop culture references.  Email body must tie into the headline, for Scott. Airial can take or leave that. Email should also sell or send the reader somewhere. Both Airial and Scott talk about being a part of Marc Mawhinney's e-mail list and how engaging the emails are. (and how he send one every day without annoying the recipients.) They also describe the headlines of Dan Meredith as being show-stopping. Two of Scott’s favorite email headlines: Why be a Hero When you can be a Villain? Heroes are reactive. It’s the villain of the story who has a goal, a plan, execution, and investors. Ya Don’t Know What Ya Don’t Know, Ya Know?  Scott shares the story of his highest email open rate was with a smiley face headline: :]  He goes on to say anything that makes people say, “Huh?” or “What’s that about?” works beautifully. What causes you to open your email?

Topics that can make grabbing headline:

  • Song lyrics
  • Politics
  • Universal human experiences
  • Things that feed people’s need to be nosey/drama
  • Emotional responses
  • Scarcity
    • Done right: This is the Only Webinar I’m Doing This Year
  • Questions

Things to consider when creating a headline:

  • Who is your audience?
  • Don’t make ‘oops’ emails
  • ‘Hurry’ & ‘limited time’ emails often backfire (clickbait)

Airial Quotes:

“Make sure your emails match your brand’s voice.”

“How do you have limited seats on an online webinar that isn’t live?”

“You’re always selling. It’s just how you do it.”

“Write in a conversational tone because that gets them into the moment and it sounds like you’re talking directly to them.”

Scott Quotes:

“The thing about a template is, you don’t want to follow the exact template just because it’s worked for other people. You want to adapt it to work for you.”

“Subject line: Banana Hammock.”

“It’s important to look at headlines as what’s going to impact my audience that makes them click?”

“Don’t put limited seats during a webinar. It’s a digital conference room. Stop it. Stop. You’re lying to me. That’s not real scarcity. That’s false scarcity.

“If thoughts were lily pads.”
