Today, we are going to continue our focus on balance. This week is specifically on our thoughts, how we think. Yesterday we considered God’s thoughts. Today, we want to consider that we are on His mind. He thinks about us. He thinks about you.
Psalm 139 is well known, often quoted, and has been emblazoned on Christian art in many forms. Listen intently to verses 16-18:
You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!
Do you ever think that God has you on His mind? Because you are His child and He loves you, just as your children are on your mind because you love them? It’s true. His Word says so.
With this in mind listen again to the passage
You saw me before I was born. … Every day of my life was recorded in your book. … Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. … How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. … They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!
The psalmist states that God’s thoughts about you are precious…they are good thoughts…they are loving thoughts…and there are so many that they cannot be numbered. We can’t even count them.
Doesn’t that kind of sound like the language of a love letter? … That’s because it is. Psalm 139 is about God’s deep love for you.
Can you receive how God feels about you? Can you accept how much He loves you? Can you let your love grow for Him today?
As you ruminate on this, let’s take some slow deep breaths once again.
Breathe deep then slowly exhale and let go of your strife and stress. Move into the balance God offers you in this new day by trusting Him.
Let’s pray together: “Heavenly Father, in our culture we hear “God loves you” more like a greeting card sentiment than a truth. But that’s just not fair. You love me. You love me as Your child. Help me to take that truth in deeper. Help me to think like someone You love. As above, so below.”
