Phakamile Hlubi is the National Spokesperson for the largest trade union in the country, the National Union of Metalworkers of South
Africa (NUMSA). She is also serves as the chairperson of the board of Tricontinental Institute for Social Research.
She was born and bred in Soweto and she attended Wits university and served on the SRC as Education Officer (2000-2001), where she fought the administration for academically and financially excluded students to be re-admitted.
