Our co-host is a health care leader in South Africa and the former president of the Health Professions Council of SA. He founded the African Medical Association in 2006 and was previously the president of the World Medical Association (WMA).
He made history by becoming the first black person to qualify as an ophthalmologist in SA during the apartheid years, his interest in health care for SA has seen him participate in various health committees and task teams most specifically his work on harm-reduction in the early 2000’s and his ambitious projects with former President Nelson Mandela which resulted in access to antiretroviral treatment to HIV positive patients.
