Welcome back to the garage for another tune up episode. Each month, these shorter tune up episodes offer a bite sized glimpse at what helps the Pieces to Wellness crew stay on the wellness side of the mental health spectrum.
This month, we're doing our routine maintenance on distractions. Distractions can be helpful and/or unhelpful. Sometimes a distraction can start out as helpful and over time, slide into the unhelpful side of the spectrum. We all distract ourselves from many different things - in this conversation, we're focusing primarily on distracting ourselves from uncomfortable emotions.
The first step is to identify the distractions that aren't helping - this may help you pinpoint what it is you're distracting yourself from. Sleeping too much? Lost in thought? Leaning too hard into the grind mindset? Emotional eating? These are a few examples of the many distractions that start with good intention, or plain old necessity, but can also pull you way from the inner work you may be putting off. One way or another, the time will come when emotions can no longer be ignored.
So don't neglect that check engine light!
