Turn From Evil & Do Good.
1 Peter 3:10-11
“For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.”
1 Peter 3:10-11 NIV
This is part 2 of the Key to Living A Long & Prosperous Life
Do good and turn away from evil.
Do good:
“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” James 4:17 NKJV
There are several opportunities everyday for us to do good. I’m not talking about big gestures of goodness, but rather little things like saying please and thank you; Smiling at others around you to brighten their day; being a good neighbor; a good citizen - obey traffic signs;
In your relationships, to lead a prosperously long life, you must
“…love … without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another;” Romans 12:9-10 NKJV
Job 29:11-18 is my favorite scripture - I title the chapter leading a fulfilled life:
“When the ear heard, then it blessed me, And when the eye saw, then it approved me; Because I delivered the poor who cried out, The fatherless and the one who had no helper. The blessing of a perishing man came upon me, And I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban. I was eyes to the blind, And I was feet to the lame. I was a father to the poor, And I searched out the case that I did not know. I broke the fangs of the wicked, And plucked the victim from his teeth. “Then I said, ‘I shall die in my nest, And multiply my days as the sand.”
Job 29:11-18 NKJV
Turn from evil:
It is never enough to simply try to do good, however, We must also avoid evil with each step we take. Avoiding evil includes avoiding the appearance of it.
There are lots of people who do good but are still deep seated in activities directly or indirectly that bring harm to others.
Psalm 1 gives us how to avoid evil:
“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”
Psalms 1:1-3 NKJV
As much as we are doing good, we must be far from evil also.
To live long and be prosperous - you must turn from evil and do good.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you because you are a good God. Thank you for loading us with your goodness on a daily basis - new every morning. Daddy, I pray that you grant us a heart filled with your love for ourselves and for others. Help us to turn away from evil and do good all the days of our lives in Jesus name! Amen! Amen!! Amen!!!
