Turn To God w/ Carin - Bill Lightfoot – Elder Abuse
Police Dept (36 years), as: investigator, supervisor with Property Crimes Unit, Robbery/ Homicide Unit, Narcotics Div, Criminal Intelligence Unit & Domestic Violence Unit…. Bill has vast experience, and trains organizations (i.e., law enforcement, attorneys, medical facilities, Social Services, etc.). He addressed the need for Elder Abuse training in order for these organizations to be better enabled these first responders to help more effectively. Bill defined Elder Abuse as mistreatments of people who are 60+ (and, as in Virginia, those incapacitated age 18 to 59), and to force compliance with demands, involving many risk factors and types of abuse. Elder Neglect incl. willful and sometimes unintentional neglect. Financial Abuse is especially prevalent. Elder Abuse may involve a person’s partner (as in domestic violence), their care giver, family, etc. Elderly individuals can find empowerment, awareness and resources through socializing in the senior community.
