In the 1950s, a TV series adaptation of the literary character Long John Silver aired, produced in Australia and starring English actor Robert Newton in the title role. However, the series aired in both the U.S. and the U.K. before the advent of Australian television, and was finally broadcast in Australia later in the decade.
