The No. 8-ranked TVCC Cardinals are ready to get back to work.
The Cardinals are coming off an open week after beating Cisco College at Bruce Field, 37-3. This week, they go on the road to face Blinn on Saturday night in Brenham.
The Blinn Buccaneers are 2-3 on the year, with all three losses coming in SWJCFC play.
"This is the game where they've got to turn it around, or they're kind of out of the playoff talk," said Coach Sherard Poteete.
In the SWJCFC, anything could happen, so don't pay too much attention to Blinn's record.
"Everybody's kind of beating everybody up in our conference right now," Coach Poteete said. "You've got to come and play week in and week out, doesn't matter the opponent."
The Cardinals must shut down Buccaneer running back Antonio Martin to beat Blinn. Martin is leading the conference in yards and yards per game.
"I think that Blinn may have one of the best running backs in our conference, so if we can shut the run down, then I think that bodes well for Trinity Valley," said Coach Poteete.
The good news is the Cardinals' front seven has been playing well, including recent NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week McCoy Casey. He had 11 tackles, an interception, and a sack against Cisco.
On the offensive side, the Cardinals heated up against Cisco with Darion Peace going 21-of-27 for 301 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown.
Peace leads the conference in passing yards per game and is second in passing efficiency.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday in Brenham.
