In this episode, I strip away the Pinterest-perfect “bonding” myths and tell the truth about breastfeeding when you have a trauma history.
This is my lived experience of dissociation, panic, and the “weird body feelings” nobody warns you about—and how somatic breathwork + embodiment (MELT) helped me feel safe in my body again.
CW/Trigger Warning: sexual trauma, child abuse, postpartum mental health. Please pace yourself.
We cover:
🍼 The dark side no one talks about — why breastfeeding can trigger stored trauma (and why that doesn’t mean you’re broken).
🧠 Dissociation, freeze & intrusive thoughts — what was happening in my body and how I learned to read the signals.
⚡️ Nervous-system safety > technique — why supply wasn’t the real problem; safety was.
🤍 Shame, secrecy & self-blame — dismantling the “I should love this” narrative.
🌬️ Somatic tools that actually helped — conscious connected breathing, micro-movement, safe-space visualisation, and grief release.
🧭 Building real-life safety — sleep, support, boundaries, and designing postpartum to protect your nervous system.
🫀 MELT & womb clearing — how breath + embodiment helped me reconnect with my body and feel safe again (and how you can start, gently).
Why this matters:
Your reactions aren’t proof that you’re “bad” at motherhood. They’re your body asking to be felt, held, and released.
One practice to try today:
Place a hand on your heart + one on your lower belly. Breathe 4 in / 6 out for 3 minutes. Name one sensation, one need, and one tiny action that would help you feel 2% safer right now.
